Mido signs for English Championship side Barnsley

The former Tottenham, Middleborough, Wigan and West Ham striker passed the medical test to complete the deal.

"It's a great signing for the football club and for the profile of the club," Barnsley manager Keith Hill told the club's official website. "I am looking forward to working with a player of exceptional talent.

"There will be plenty of work to be done and that will be a reflection of what we will see on match day. We can't wait to get going," he added.

The 29-year-old striker who returned to his boyhood club Zamalek in January 2011 after spending 11 years in Europe was released from Zamalek's squad for the next season on request of coach Hassan Shehata after he failed to establish himself with the club in the last season.

The player missed the majority of the last season due to injury or problems concerning being overweight.

Mido started his career abroad at Belgium side Ghent in 2000 and he presented a string of strong performances with Ajax (the Netherlands), Marseille (France), Celta Vigo (Spain) and Tottenham (England).

He played for the Egyptian national team from 2001, scoring 20 goals in 51 appearances.
